In non-angsty news...

Cereal for dinner is strangely comforting.

Also, Sydney Dance Company will be in Brisbane Jun 21-Jul 1 with a new work (TBA), and performances of Underland will be happening in Canberra Jul 18-Jul 22.

The chance to see Underland again tickles me with glee. Here's hoping I'll be able to manage it.

In pouty news, my extra icons have expired, so I can't use my dance-y icon. This makes me sad. Ah well. After christmas, perhaps.

SDC Grand

Grand was lovely, with beautiful and fun bits. It's nice to be reminded that the SDC guys don't take themselves too seriously, whilst still being awesome and wonderfully talented.
Was all in all a lovely night for piano music also, with the piano being a major focus of Grand (as in grand piano). I'm not much of a classical music critic, but from what I heard, Scott Davie was great.

Amusing highlight was the four dancers taking over the piano and playing chopstix. Gave the audience a wonderful giggle. *grin*
TechGeek highlight was the section with transparent screen over the front of the stage and guy with digicam standing over the piano, so that you essentially had a live translucent projection of the Davies' hands playing, with Bradley Chatfield dancing behind it. So very cool.
Dancer highlights were Bradley Chatfield, who is always utterly wonderful, and Wakako Asano, who just lit up the stage whenever she was on it, at just the right level.
Dance piece highlight goes to the piece choreographed for “Coral-Canto do Sertão” from Bachianas Brasileiras No. 4 by Heitor Villa-Lobos. Wakako Asano, Connor Dowling and Shane Placentino were wonderful, and there was just so much love in every millimetre of that piece.

Sadly, they had sold out of programs, which was a great shame. I did however get the CD with all the music, as played by Scott Davie. Which in a way, is kinda like a program in itself. *smiles*

I feel happy and loved. This is a wonderful way to feel. I wish to share it, so love for all of you.

Weekend

Yesterday was Ekka. Some of it seems to have been scaled down from last year, which is a shame. I also want to know who thought putting the cats in between the fish and the birds was a good idea.

The people running stands in the Chinese Pavillion displayed what I tend to see a lot from my mother's homeland, which is the tendency to snub people of non-asian appearance, even when they're trying to give you money. It's one of the common cultural traits I like least about that part of my heritage, and it's one of the reasons I get angry when usually well-meaning people run around acting as though only white westerners are racist.

But back to Ekka. The food and wine pavillion held much, MUCH good chilli sauce. $ spent lots of money, and I hear there will be (time permitting) a chilli cookout for the masochistic later in the year. Mwahaha. I also bought the food magazine showbag thingys, cos they were cheap and hand sample-things.

Also caught up with [info]avaaricious and her Dad, wandering around the art show; mocking things and being snooty art critic, though occasionally seeing Very Nice Things[tm]. The digital photography and enhancement section was rather a laughing stock.

There were some very nice yarns in the Wool Pavillion, but nothing that really leapt out at me, so I didn't buy any, which my credit card probably likes me for. I did however, buy a belt, which I've been needed for some time. This means the pants which are too big now on account of recent weight loss can be worn without me having to hike them back up every 5 steps.

There was little of interest in the Showbag Pavillion. I'd not reaklised how much less fun it is when one cannot eat very much in the candy and chocolate showbags. We bought Pepsi bags for the backpacks and the PepsiMax and left.

Today is BBQ, then off to QPAC in the Evening for Sydney Dance Company's Grand. Am much looking forward to it. I'm a great big SDC fangirl, and I missed them when they toured last year because I was bogged down with assessment. This year, I booked early enough that I didn't feel guilty and could schedule my assessment work around it, which is a much better plan. I think it will become a regularity.

And now, We're late for the BBQ.
